The Miss Universe crown has been worn by a black skin girl who said in her victory speech that she grew up in a world where a woman who looks like her, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful.
Her name is Zozibini Tunzi, a 26 year old South African model and PR Personality. She finished first ahead of her Mexican and Puerto Rican finalists.
The event however, was held in Tyler Perry Studios, Atlanta, Georgia, United States and was hosted by Hollywood actor turned TV Personality, Steve Harvey.
Tunzi wrote on her Instagram;
“Tonight a door was opened and I could not be more grateful to have been the one to have walked through it.”
“May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine. I proudly state my name Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019!”
