When the world’s most wealthiest men come together to achieve a purpose, it always comes to a fruitful conclusion.
That isn’t an exception with the 2nd world’s wealthiest man, Bill Gates and African’s number one richest, Aliko Dangote.
In a recent article posted on his personal blog gatesnotes.com, the American native expressed his excitement on meeting Aliko Dangote who he said has things in common with him.
The father of three stated that he met Aliko couple years ago in New York during an event they both attended. Gates said his mutual friend had asked him to meet Aliko because he knew both of them are interested in global health.
“As soon as we shook hands, it was clear we had a ton in common”, Bill recounted, saying that he and Aliko Dangote started their companies in the late 1970s. And for a second act in life, they both chose to start foundations aimed at improving health and education.
Bill Gates’ foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Dangote Foundation, are such foundations they coincidentally founded to improve health and education worldwide.
He further reiterated that his first meeting with Kano State, Nigeria born Aliko Dangote sparked the beginning of a fruitful friendship. In 2016, the both foundations announced a joint, five-year $100 million commitment to reducing malnutrition in Nigeria.
However, he said that one of the ways their foundations are working together to fight malnutrition is through food fortification as Nigeria is home to nearly a quarter of all people living in sub-Saharan Africa, and that population is only going to grow in the future. A problem solved in Nigeria, can have a huge impact on all of Africa.
