We brought you reports last week about the arrest of Harlem born American rapper A$AP Rocky in Sweden.
Report reaching us is that the rapper has been released after a month in police custody. The release is pending a court hearing on 14th August, 2019.
Recall that A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, after an altercation on the streets of Stockholm was arrested with three of his bodyguards. He has been under police custody since 3rd July. He was granted bail by the court after he pleaded not guilty.
The 30 year old rapper took to his Instagram page to write; “THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT.”
US President who has been in diplomatic communication for the release of Rocky posted; “A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!”
UPDATE ON TRIAL: The rapper pleaded not guilty for the assault charges. His lawyer affirmed that the rapper acted in self-defense. The preliminary motions of the trial commenced on Tuesday August 2nd, 2019.
Since the arrest and impending trial that case has garnered global support and sympathy as Travis Scott, Shawn Mendes, Tyler the Creator, G-Eazy and more artistes have expressed support for the social media movement #JusticeForRocky after news broke that he would remain in custody for two more weeks while authorities investigated the assault claims against him.
